Poetry
in Motion: Dances of Persia and Central Asia – Come
explore the ancient cultures of the Silk Road, where long
ago camels and caravans carried spices, silk, and other
treasures from China to Europe, and stories, music, and
dance were shared along the journey. Students will
learn a charming suite of dances from Persia and Central
Asia, delightfully prance with peacock feathers and
sparkling scarves through a canopy of silk, and learn about
the rich folklore, mythology and languages of these far-away
lands.
Desert
Winds: Dances of North Africa - Get ready to jingle
coin scarves, balance tea trays on heads, twirl canes
proudly in the air, and groove to the infectious rhythms of
Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and Egypt! Students will be swept
away by the warm Sahara winds as they learn about the
vibrant cultural traditions of North Africa, and experience
how dance and music play an important role in family and
community celebrations.
