She was introduced to Balinese dance at the age of five in her village of Ngis in Eastern Bali, Indonesia. She was a lead dancer of and plays music with the premier American Balinese dance and ensemble Gamelan Sekar Jaya number of years.  She has also been involved in number of cross –cultural, cross media collaborations, including: Chitresh Das’ East as center (2003) and Abinaya Dance company’s production of Ramayana(1997) which both mixed Balinese and South Asian Indian dance; and Shadow Light production’s Sidha Karya(1996) and In Xanadu(1997) which incorporated dance and shadow puppetry. In 1998, she worked with Yasmen Sorab Metha on a  piece entitled the Piper, and 1996 she choreographed an original dance piece with composer Dudley Brooks called Lithe Spirit.

Kompiang was a featured dancer in the presentation of the vintage film Dance of the Virgins at The World trade Center in 1999. She was also finalist for the Isadora Duncan Dance Award in 1999 for both individual and ensemble performance. Kompiang has been invited to dance with the University of British Columbia’s Balinese Gamelan ensamble, Gong Gita Asmara in Vancouver in 2001,2003,2004.

She dances for the San Francisco Consul General Of Indonesia for various events. She has been at the San Francisco Etnic Dance Festival several times. In 2006 Kompiang created and performed a one-hour long autobiographical multimedia dance-theater piece,” Liku Liku Hidupku” directed by Joyce Lu . Besides dancing Kompiang designs and constructs dance costume as well. Kompiang gives private traditional Balinese dance lesson for adult and children.
