Fabio’s involvement with Capoeira started in 1985. After training in Capoeira for six years, he received a teacher’s belt. In 1992, he started his own Capoeira school called “African Heritage.” During that time he taught at two different locations, assisted his own teacher at a physical education college, and participated in several Capoeira events as both a teacher and a student.
In 1997, he was invited to participate in an event with students and teachers of Capoeria from Berkeley, California, and from all over the world. The event took place at a Music/Arts camp called “Cazadero” near the small town of Guernville, California. The camp included Brazilian dance, music, and Capoeira– all of which was organized by Mestre Marcelo Pereira . Soon after, Fabio began teaching Capoeira at “No Sweat” (now “World Dance Studio”) on Solano Ave. However, three months later Fabio found he had to move to Santa Cruz.
Yet, in 2002, he began teaching again at a community center called Louden Nelson ,and a year later Fabio taught Capoeria at Barrios Unidos (an after-school or youth/community center) located in Santa Cruz, Ca. For the past year Fabio has been integrating into his Capoeira his current knowledge, study, and practice of yoga and conscious bodywork.
