Cera Byer has been studying dance, music, and theater since the age of 4. Her dance experience includes Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Modern, Afro-Haitian, Afro-Cuban, Afro-Brazilian, Kathak of India, Dunham Technique, Salsa, Samba, Tribal Bellydance, and classical and contemporary Persian dance.
Cera is the founder and Artistic Director of Damage Control Theater, and has performed professionally with Shahrzad Dance Company, PULSE Modern Dance Ensemble, Ultra Gypsy Theater Company, Rara Tou Limen, as well as presenting her solo choreography in festivals, concert stages, lecture demonstrations, and private events across the Bay Area and beyond.
Cera has been teaching dance and music to kids, teens, and adults across the bay area for the past 4 years, and has choreographed three full length Musical Theater productions for teens with Kids Take The Stage. She has studied Creative Movement with Luna Kids Dance program in Berkeley, as well as Yoga, Pilates and Gyrotonic movement modalities.
Cera holds a BA in Dance (Performance and Choreography), with an emphasis in World Music and Dance from San Francisco State University, and is currently persuing an Interdisciplinary MFA in Dance & Poetry at New College of California. Her exhaustive, cross-genre approach to art-making is a continual effort to communicate to all senses utilizing words, movement, music, and design.
