Barbara Framm has devoted her life to the study and performance of Indian classical dance. She has studied and performed in the U.S. and India, traveling frequently back to India to renew her repertoire and replenish her inspiration, costumes and cultural familiarity. She has a B.A. in South Asian Studies from U.C. Berkeley, and was the recipient of a Smithsonian AIIS Fellowship for Performing Artists to study in India. A teacher of Bharata Natyam with her teachers Katherine and K.P. Kunhiraman of Kalanjali: Dances of India, she was also a principal dancer, Assistant Director and teacher of Odissi for Odissi Vilas: Sacred Dance of India, directed by Vishnu Tattva Das. Barbara teaches dance throughout the year at her own school in Marin: Saraswati Kala Nilaya, and is a yoga instructor as well. She completed a one hour documentary "The Golden Thread: From Kalakshetra to California", on Indian dance and her teachers the Kunhiraman's.
